Aeromexico Pet Policy (2026): Fees, Carrier Size & Rules

Yes. Aeromexico allows dogs and cats in the cabin on domestic and international flights for $182 per flight segment, per pet, on international flights. The carrier must fit under the seat in front of you, up to 40 × 30 × 22 cm (soft-sided, Tourist (economy) cabin) or 34 × 21 × 22 cm (soft-sided, Premier cabin). Your pet and carrier together can weigh up to 9 kg (≈ 19.8 lb).

How to add your dog to a booking

  1. Aeromexico's pet pages don't describe an online step to add a pet. Call Aeromexico to arrange it (1-800-237-6639 from the U.S.).
  2. Download, fill in and sign Aeromexico's Liability Letter for the Transportation of Animals, and bring it printed (original and copy) to check-in.
  3. Go to the check-in counter at least 2 hours before departure (3 hours for dogs flying to the U.S.). The carrier gets a Pet in the Cabin (PETC) label there.

  • High season costs more: USD 189 per segment internationally, MXN 1,910 within Mexico.
  • The fee applies to every segment. For example, Monterrey–Mexico City–Paris is two segments, so you pay twice.
  • Checked pets cost more: USD 283 to 290 per international segment, MXN 1,800 to 2,195 within Mexico.

  • The carrier must be a flexible or soft plastic bag type, with a one-piece absorbent base, good ventilation and room for your pet to turn around and lie down. It goes under the seat, facing forward.
  • Pets must be at least 8 weeks old, or 6 months old on flights to the United States.
  • 1 carrier per passenger, with one pet inside.

Where you can sit

  • Window seats only, not in emergency exit or bulkhead rows
  • Premier Class on the Embraer 190: at most one pet per flight, and you get an aisle seat
  • Unaccompanied minors can't fly with a pet in the cabin

Where pets can't fly

Aeromexico says:

  • London: no pets in the passenger cabin

Breeds

Short-nosed (brachycephalic) breeds are not accepted in cargo. Short-nosed dogs and cats are not accepted as checked pets or cargo, even after corrective BOAS surgery. "In some cases" they may fly in the cabin if they meet all the cabin rules. Breeds that look short-nosed need a vet's certificate saying they aren't.

Also good to know

  • One animal per passenger in the cabin in total: you can't bring a pet plus a service or emotional support animal.
  • Dogs flying to the U.S. must be at least 6 months old, microchipped, and have an approved CDC Dog Import Form. Go to the counter at least 3 hours before departure for a document check and physical exam.
  • Dogs flying from the U.S. into Mexico need a screwworm inspection document from a USDA-accredited vet, issued within 5 days before entry (since August 3, 2026).
  • The in-cabin pet service is only for flights operated by Aeromexico.
  • Females with nursing young, unweaned animals and pets under veterinary treatment aren't accepted.

Cargo and checked pets

Aeromexico carries pets in the cargo hold through checked pets (AVIH). Dogs, cats and birds can fly checked in the hold on your flight, up to 45 kg with a hard kennel. No checked pets if it's above 35°C or below 7°C at the origin, transit or destination airport. The checked service covers Aeromexico-operated flights only: collect and re-check your pet at each connection. At most 4 checked pets per flight on the Embraer 190, and 10 on the 737-700, 737 MAX 8/9 and 787-8/9.

Service dogs and emotional support animals

  • Only trained service dogs are accepted as service animals.
  • Required paperwork: Emotional support animals need a certificate from a psychiatric physician; flights to/from the U.S. follow U.S. rules.

Other details

  • Aeromexico still accepts emotional support animals (dogs and cats up to 12 kg / 26 lb, at most 22 in long x 12 in tall) at no extra cost, with a certificate from a psychiatric physician.
  • Flying from Paris or Amsterdam with a checked pet: request it at least 72 hours before departure.
  • The pet flies at your expense, on the same flight as you. No food or water on board, and the pet can't sit on a seat.
