How to add your dog to a booking

  1. Submit Qatar's online pet request, or contact Qatar, at least 48 hours before departure to confirm space and check the rules for your route.
  2. Get an IATA-compliant kennel (Qatar has a kennel size calculator) labelled with your name, contact details and your pet's name.
  3. Arrive at the check-in desk at least 2 hours before departure.

  • These are checked-baggage fees. Pets can't fly in the cabin, so there's no cabin pet fee.
  • Over 75 kg or larger than 300 cm (118 in) in total dimensions, the pet must go as cargo.
  • The animal fee applies even if you haven't used your free baggage allowance.
  • Qatar says changes and cancellations are free, and rates can change without notice.

    Routes, breeds and other restrictions

    Where pets can't fly

    We haven't verified which routes, if any, don't accept pets on Qatar Airways. Check the official page before you book.

    Breeds

    Qatar Airways says: "The transport of certain breeds of dogs and cats is restricted as these animals are normally susceptible to increased risk of heat stroke when exposed to stress or temperatures above 21°C (69.8°F)." It keeps the list on a separate Restricted breeds page. Confirm with Qatar Airways before you book a short-nosed dog or cat.

    Also good to know

    • Australia and New Zealand: pets must travel as cargo, and pets to Australia can only go through Melbourne (MEL).
    • Qatar doesn't accept animals connecting from flights operated by other airlines.
    • Your pet needs a health certificate from a vet within 10 days before travel.
    • If the layover in Doha is over 3 hours, ground staff let dogs out to walk, clean the kennel and give a larger kennel during the transfer.

    Cargo and checked pets

    Qatar Airways carries pets in the cargo hold through pets as checked baggage in the hold. Cats, dogs and birds fly as checked baggage in a dedicated part of the hold. Pets must go as Qatar Airways Cargo instead if they travel alone, weigh over 75 kg, exceed 300 cm, connect from another airline, or fly to or from Australia or New Zealand.

      Other details

      • Emotional support dogs don't count as service dogs and aren't accepted in the cabin.
      • Service dogs can fly in the cabin only on specific regulated routes (see Article 18 of Qatar's Conditions of Carriage).
      • One falcon per passenger can fly in the Economy cabin, with its own fees.
