Frontier Airlines Pet Policy (2026): Fees, Carrier Size & Rules

Yes. Frontier allows dogs and cats in the cabin on domestic flights only for $149 each way, per pet. The carrier must fit under the seat in front of you, up to 18 × 14 × 8 in (hard-sided) or 18 × 14 × 11 in (soft-sided). Pets can't fly in cargo or as checked baggage.

How to add your dog to a booking

  1. When booking, select "Cabin Pet" in the Passenger Info section. For an existing booking, go to Manage Trip and select "Add Pet in Cabin".
  2. Pay the pet fee when you book, or at check-in if you didn't pay in advance.
  3. Keep your pet in its carrier under the seat in front of you for the whole flight.

Carrier size and weight

Frontier doesn't publish a weight limit for pets in the cabin. What matters is the carrier: your pet has to fit inside it, and it has to fit under the seat in front of you.

  • Soft-sided carriers are recommended. The carrier must be big enough for your pet to stand, turn around and lie down naturally.
  • Your pet carrier plus either a personal item (up to 8 x 14 x 18 in) or a carry-on bag (up to 10 x 16 x 24 in, extra fee).
  • Pets must be at least 8 weeks old.
  • 1 carrier per passenger, with one pet inside.

Where pets can't fly

Pets can fly on domestic Frontier flights only, including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands:

  • International flights (Frontier no longer accepts new pets for international travel)

Breeds

Frontier doesn't mention short-nosed breeds.

Also good to know

  • Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands have extra entry rules, including a health certificate and a recent rabies vaccination.
  • Frontier recommends no food or water for your pet within 4 hours of departure.
  • No oxygen is given to pets in an emergency.
  • Your pet must stay in its container for the whole trip.

Cargo and checked pets

Frontier doesn't carry pets in the cargo hold, so a dog that doesn't fit in an under-seat carrier can't fly with Frontier.

Service dogs and emotional support animals

  • Only trained service dogs are accepted as service animals.

Other details

  • Besides dogs and cats, the cabin also takes rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters and small household birds on flights within the U.S.
  • If you fly with a trained service dog, you can also bring one pet in the cabin.
  • Frontier says emotional support animals are not accepted. Its pages don't say whether they can fly as regular pets, so ask Frontier.
