KLM Pet Policy (2026): Fees, Carrier Size & Rules

Yes. KLM allows dogs and cats in the cabin on domestic and international flights from €70 per pet. The carrier must fit under the seat in front of you, up to 46 × 28 × 24 cm. Your pet and carrier together can weigh up to 8 kg (≈ 17.6 lb).

How to add your dog to a booking

  1. Reserve your pet as soon as possible after booking your flight, and no later than 48 hours before departure, in My Trip.
  2. At the airport, go to the special assistance check-in desk with your pet's documents. Your pet and kennel are weighed and labeled there.
  3. Arrive at least 3 hours before departure.

Carrier size and weight

The weight limit is 8 kg (≈ 17.6 lb) including the carrier.

Closed pet travel bag or kennel (maximum)

≈ 18.1 × 11 × 9.4 in (L × W × H)

  • The bag or kennel must fully contain your pet, with room to stand up, turn around and breathe comfortably. It travels under the seat in front of you, and your pet can't come out during the flight.
  • Pets must be at least 15 weeks old.
  • The number of pets allowed on each flight depends on the aircraft.
  • 1 carrier per passenger, with one pet inside.

Where you can sit

  • Economy Class, or Business Class within Europe
  • Not in Premium Comfort Class or Business Class on intercontinental routes (no room under the seat)

Where pets can't fly

KLM says:

  • To the UK: no pets in the cabin or hold (UK government embargo). Flights from the UK are fine.

Breeds

Short-nosed (brachycephalic) breeds are not accepted in cargo. KLM can't carry most snub-nosed cats and dogs in the hold (it lists the breeds), but you can take them in the cabin or send them as cargo.

Also good to know

  • Dogs flying to the U.S. must be at least 6 months old, microchipped and have a CDC Dog Import Form receipt (for dogs 6 to 12 months old, fill it in at least 15 days before departure).
  • At Paris (CDG or Orly), pets don't transfer automatically: collect your pet and check it in again for your connecting flight.

Cargo and checked pets

KLM carries pets in the cargo hold through pets in the hold. Up to 3 pets in the hold; pet and kennel together under 75 kg. Kennel max 122 x 81 x 89 cm (102 x 69 x 76 cm on KLM European flights with Boeing 737 and Embraer aircraft). No hold pets on the Boeing 787-9, 787-10 or Airbus A321neo, on German Airways flights, on KLM Cityhopper flights over 2 hours, or with a transfer of 3 hours or more.
