Air France Pet Policy (2026): Fees, Carrier Size & Rules

Yes. Air France allows dogs and cats in the cabin on domestic and international flights for $200 each way, per carrier, between the U.S./Canada and Europe. The carrier must fit under the seat in front of you, up to 46 × 28 × 24 cm (soft-sided). Your pet and carrier together can weigh up to 8 kg (≈ 17.6 lb).

How to add your dog to a booking

  1. Add your pet to your booking at least 48 hours before departure. If you've already booked, add the Pet Travel Option for the cabin under "My Booking".
  2. Fill in and sign the "AIR FRANCE KLM checklist for transporting cats and dogs in the cabin" and hand it in at check-in.
  3. Arrive at the check-in counter with your pet 3 hours before an intercontinental flight, or 2 hours before a flight within France or Europe.

  • With connections, the fee is based on your departure country and final destination.
  • The fee is a flat rate, paid online or at the Air France sales counter at the airport.
  • Hold fees are higher: USD 600 between the U.S./Canada and Europe, USD 750 between the U.S./Canada and the rest of the world.

The weight limit is 8 kg (≈ 17.6 lb) including the carrier.

  • Only soft bags that fit easily under the seat in front of you are accepted. The carrier must be well ventilated and big enough for your pet to stand up and turn around.
  • Your pet's carrier counts as an additional baggage item and has a fee.
  • Pets must be at least 15 weeks old.
  • 1 carrier per passenger, with one pet inside.

Where you can sit

  • No pets in the Business cabin on intercontinental flights (pets travel in the hold instead)

Routes, breeds and other restrictions

Where pets can't fly

Until further notice, Air France says:

  • United Kingdom, Dubai and Abu Dhabi: pets can only travel by cargo
  • Moscow to Paris: no pets in the hold

Breeds

Short-nosed (brachycephalic) breeds are not accepted in cargo. Air France doesn't allow snub-nosed animals (such as Pugs, Bulldogs, Boxers, Pekingese, Shih Tzus, Persian or Burmese cats) in the hold. They can fly in the cabin, and Air France recommends asking your vet first.

Also good to know

  • Category 1 attack dogs under French rules (pit bull-type Staffordshire and American Staffordshire Terriers, Boerboel Mastiffs, Tosas) can't travel at all. Category 2 dogs travel on cargo flights only.
  • Dogs that spent the last 6 months in a high-risk rabies country aren't allowed into the U.S. without special authorization from U.S. health authorities.
  • Minimum age is 8 weeks for flights within Metropolitan France and between France and Guadeloupe, Martinique and Réunion.
  • Dogs and cats traveling within the EU need a microchip and a European pet passport.

Cargo and checked pets

Air France carries pets in the cargo hold through pets in the hold. Cats and dogs from 8 kg up to 75 kg (with the kennel) must travel in the hold, in an IATA-approved, bolted, rigid plastic or fiberglass kennel. Up to 3 animals per passenger. Add the pet at least 24 hours before departure.
