Iberia Pet Policy (2026): Fees, Carrier Size & Rules

Yes. Iberia allows dogs and cats in the cabin on domestic and international flights for $215 per flight segment, per carrier, on flights to and from America, Asia and Qatar. The carrier must fit under the seat in front of you, up to 45 × 35 × 25 cm. Your pet and carrier together can weigh up to 8 kg (≈ 17.6 lb).

How to add your dog to a booking

  1. On iberia.com, open the passenger menu in the flight search and select "Pet in cabin", then choose your flights and enter the species, breed and responsible passenger.
  2. Accept the carrier rules and terms, and add the pet to your booking. The price shows next to the "Add" button.
  3. To add a pet after booking, contact Iberia's booking offices. At the airport, collect your boarding card at the desk, where staff check your pet's documents.

  • Paying at the airport costs more (for example USD 235 instead of 215 on America/Asia routes). Call Center bookings can only be paid at the airport.
  • With connecting flights, the America/Asia fee is USD 235 online; if your trip crosses zones, the highest zone price applies.
  • The price is per carrier, not per pet: up to three small animals of the same species can share one carrier.
  • Iberia can change these prices at any time.

Carrier size and weight

The weight limit is 8 kg (≈ 17.6 lb) including the carrier.

  • The carrier must be sturdy and ventilated (at least 16% of the four sides), with a safe, leak-proof base. On flights operated by Air Nostrum, it can't be rigid.

  • The carrier can't go on a seat; it stays under the seat at your feet when the seat belt sign is on

Routes, breeds and other restrictions

Where pets can't fly

Iberia lists these limits:

  • UK: no cabin pets on flights to London Heathrow, Manchester and Edinburgh, none at all at London Gatwick, and no hold pets to/from any UK airport (cargo only)
  • Qatar (Doha): no cabin pets, hold only
  • South Africa: no pets as cabin or hold baggage (cargo only)
  • Ireland: no hold pets on flights from Dublin
  • Flights operated by Vueling: no pets in the hold

Breeds

Short-nosed (brachycephalic) breeds are not accepted in cargo. Iberia can't carry short-nosed dogs and cats (it lists the breeds, including Pugs, Bulldogs, Boxers, Shih Tzus and some small breeds like Chihuahuas and Yorkshire Terriers) in the hold. They can fly in the cabin if they meet the cabin rules.

Also good to know

  • Dangerous breeds not accepted in the cabin or hold: Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Rottweiler, Doberman, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, Tosa and Akita.
  • Iberia doesn't carry animals from the weasel family (such as ferrets).
  • Besides dogs and cats, the cabin also takes ornamental fish, tortoises and birds (not poultry or birds of prey).

Cargo and checked pets

Iberia carries pets in the cargo hold through pets in the hold (with prior authorization). Cats and dogs up to 45 kg with the carrier, authorized in advance through Iberia's booking offices at least 48 hours before departure. Connections must be 90 minutes to 4 hours. Hold pets are restricted on some routes, such as Madrid to/from Boston, Toronto, Washington, San Juan, Recife and Fortaleza. Pets that can't fly as baggage can go through IAG Cargo or WOOF Airlines.
